Drop BZ2 (bzip2) files onto the box above, or click it to choose them. ToAny reads the file's contents to detect the type, so a wrong extension does not matter.
Press Convert. There is nothing else to set. The work happens in this tab.
Save the XZ, or download everything as one ZIP if you converted several files.
The BZ2 to XZ converter is part of this page and runs inside your browser. Your compressed files are never sent to ToAny or to anyone else.
Nothing has to travel to a server and back, so the conversion starts the moment you press Convert, even on a slow connection.
No sign-up, no email address and no watermark. Add several files and download them together as a ZIP.
BZ2 holds one file only and is slow to compress. XZ makes smaller files than gzip. BZ2 is at home in compressing one file or a TAR archive on Unix systems; XZ is the usual choice for software distribution where download size matters.
A password-protected archive is refused, since its contents cannot be read without the password. A .bz2 file holds one file and no folders; that file is unpacked as it is and then repacked in the new format.
bzip2 compresses a single file with the Burrows-Wheeler transform, giving smaller files than gzip but slower. It was the default for source tarballs before XZ took over, and .bz2 files are still common in scientific data.

BZ2 converterXZ squeezes a single file with the LZMA2 algorithm, producing noticeably smaller files than gzip at the cost of more time and memory when compressing. Linux kernel sources and many distribution packages are shipped as .tar.xz.

No. The BZ2 to XZ conversion runs inside your browser, on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to ToAny or to anyone else.
No. The files inside are repackaged unchanged.
Yes. Add as many as you like, convert them together and download each result or all of them as one ZIP.
The steps are the same everywhere because ToAny runs in the web browser: open this page in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox, add the BZ2 file, press Convert and save the XZ. There is nothing to install.
Yes. An archive can be up to 500 MB, unpack to at most 1 GB and hold up to 50,000 files; beyond those limits the page says so. Beyond that the limit is your device's memory, since nothing is uploaded; a computer copes with large files better than a phone.
