OFF has no materials, textures or units, and few 3D modelling or printing programs open it. GLB is one self-contained file that web and AR viewers load directly. OFF is at home in simple polygon meshes in research code and shape datasets; GLB is the usual choice for sharing one self-contained 3D model for the web or AR.
The model is converted as triangles: lines and points are dropped, positions are used as they are, and no axis conversion is applied, so a model that is Y-up in glTF and Z-up in STL, OBJ and PLY is written exactly as it was read. Everything, geometry and colours, goes into one binary file. Models up to 3,000,000 triangles are accepted.
OFF lists a mesh as plain text: a header with the vertex and face counts, one line per vertex, then one line per polygon giving its corner count and vertex indices. Variants add vertex colours (COFF) or normals (NOFF). Its simplicity made it the format of shape benchmarks such as Princeton's and ModelNet.
